Fun mid century edition of The Diaries of Adam & Eve by Mark Twain w Illustrations by Mel Furukawa. Gross and Baxter will portray the universe’s first couple as Twain envisioned them: Eve is wiser, smarter and more eager for a relationship than Adam, who is exasperated by Eve’s relentless chatter. The late actor David Birney (Meredith Baxter’s former husband) combined Eve’s Diary with an earlier piece by Twain called Extracts from Adam’s Diary into the endearing The Diaries of Adam and Eve, which serves as a pleasurable reminder of Twain’s storytelling genius and how much fun it is to hear his words aloud. Meredith Baxter and Michael Gross return to New Mexico Actors Lab for another Valentine week benefit, this time performing an adaptation by David Birney of Mark Twain’s Diaries of Adam and Eve. Mark Twains translation of the diaries of the first man and woman offers a humorous he said/she said narrative of biblical events. They were written as two separate works but fit together so well I have combined them into one here. The Diaries of Adam and Eve at New Mexico Actors Lab How the two finally come together is what makes these stories so wonderful and expresses the love between a husband and wife. Adam's diary is different and he comes across as a somewhat surly person who just wants to be alone and think his thoughts. To me this is obviously a posthumous love-letter to Twain's wife Olivia Langdon Clemens, or Livy, who died in June 1904, but others may disagree. The book of Adam and Eve, in which Twain wrote about the relationships between men and women, tells one of the most beautiful love stories. The freshness, wonder and excitement of exploring a new world permeates Eve's thoughts as she takes great joy in her very existence and loves everything about it. Mark Twain wrote these two diaries, or rather as he insists, 'translated them from the original manuscripts', late in his writing career. Delightfully funny, irreverent and very tasteful, The Diaries of Adam and Eve is a succinctly written description of the vast differences in world views. , listen for free online at the digital library site The Diaries of Adam and Eve - description and summary of the book.
